The City of Big Spring is seeking experienced professionals as candidates to lead its Fire & EMS Departments as Fire Chief.

The Big Spring Fire Department (BSFD) is a Civil Service department with five stations that provide coverage for the City of Big Spring and portions of Howard County, responding to nearly 4,000 EMS calls and 500 fire calls per year. The department covers approximately 19 square miles and serves over 27,000 citizens.  

The Fire Chief is appointed by the City Manager and leads and directs the BSFD activities and employees consisting of the Fire Marshal, four (4) Deputy Chiefs, sixteen (16) full-time EMTs, a full staff of forty-five (45) firefighters and one part-time Administrative Assistant.

This is a salaried position that reports to the City Manager and directs all operations of the Fire & EMS Departments.   The beginning salary for the Fire Chief is $57,788.64 – $72,176.00 DOQ.  A Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Fire Administration, Fire Science, Public Administration, or other closely related field is preferred, in addition to at least six (6) years of practical fire suppression and paramedic experience.

It is expected that residency within the City of Big Spring, or a within a 30 minute commute, would be required within 90 days.
